Human error causes a stunning amount of car accidents

Car accidents happen every day. Sometimes, it’s the fault of a drunk driver. Other times it’s a young driver who is inexperienced or reckless. Sometimes it’s an older driver, perhaps a parent who is distracted by a child or an elderly individual whose physical ability to drive is declining.

When you look at it like this, it seems like there are a lot of different reasons for car accidents. How do you juggle all these different risk factors? But the truth is that there is just one main cause of the vast majority of car accidents: Human error.

Errors can take many forms

The thing to remember is that most of the reasons listed above are just examples of human error. A driver who drinks too much and then gets in the car has already made an error before they’ve even started driving, and they’re likely going to make more of them on the road. That driver who is distracted by their child or the young person who is inexperienced could also make a mistake. These are all just examples of errors that people make behind the wheel, and that’s why they cause thousands of accidents every single week.

It’s helpful to know that human error plays a part, especially if you’re trying to consider how to be a safer driver. You need to focus on yourself. But it’s also discouraging to think about how you can’t always avoid car accidents. You’re at the mercy of other people who are going to make mistakes. If you do get involved in an accident caused by one of these drivers, you may be able to seek financial compensation for your medical bills, lost wages and other such costs.
